Which tool should I start with?
Start with your chain, because a gypsy only grips chain of the right size and standard. If you already know both, go straight to the Windlass Selection Tool. If you don’t, measure a few links with the Chain Identifier, then confirm the gypsy with the Gypsy Compatibility Check.
I'm replacing another brand of windlass. What's the quickest way to find the Muir equivalent?
Use the Windlass Cross-Reference, which lines up Lewmar, Maxwell, Lofrans, Quick and other brands against Muir’s classes. You can also pick your current brand and model at the top of the Windlass Selection Tool, which then checks your chain and ground tackle as well.
How do I know what size anchor chain I need?
The Anchor Chain Size Chart gives the recommended chain size by boat length and displacement, in millimetres and inches, with the Muir windlasses built for each size. It is also available as a free printable PDF.
Are the tool results final?
They are a guide based on Muir’s own sizing data. Confirm your final selection, especially the gypsy and deck cut-out, with Muir or a Muir dealer before you order.
