Superyacht Windlasses,
Capstans &
Anchoring Systems
Class-approved anchoring and mooring systems engineered for megayachts — commercial-duty drivetrains beneath mirror-polished 316L stainless, bronze or chromed bronze, custom-built in Tasmania since 1968 for the world's leading shipyards.

Commercial Duty Beneath the Polish
Every Mega system pairs superyacht finish with the drivetrain of a working vessel — designed, cast and assembled in Australia with complete technical support through class survey.
VFD & Planetary Drives
Commercial-grade variable-frequency drives and planetary gearboxes with high power-to-weight ratios for demanding megayacht duty cycles.
CAD/CAM Custom Design
Fully integrated systems — windlasses, chain stoppers, devil claws and deck hardware — engineered to your general arrangement.
Class Documentation
Design and technical support through ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, BV and RINA approval, exceeding the most stringent requirements.
Foredeck Finishes
Mirror-polished 316L stainless steel, bronze or chromed bronze top works to complement any deck design brief.
Windlasses, Capstans & Ground Tackle
Ten vertical models, eight horizontal, ten capstans — plus anchors, stud link chain and integrated windlass controls. Every unit built to order.

VRC 4500 — VRC 23000
Mega Vertical Windlasses
Below-deck drive for an uncluttered foredeck — single or twin VRC configurations with capstan drums, for yachts from 24 m to 150 m.
HR 5000 — HR 26000
Mega Horizontal Windlasses
Above-deck horizontal drive for vessels with shallow chain lockers or exposed working foredecks — serviceable in place, built for continuous duty.

Mega Windlasses FAQs
Are Muir superyacht windlasses class approved?
Yes — Mega systems meet, and often exceed, the world’s most stringent classification requirements, including ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas and RINA, with complete design and technical documentation support through survey.
What vessel sizes does the Mega line cover?
Yachts up to 150 metres. Vertical windlasses run VRC 4500 to VRC 23000, horizontal windlasses HR 5000 to HR 26000, and capstans VC 4000 to VC 24000, including twin-windlass and fully integrated configurations.
What finishes are available?
Mirror-polished 316L stainless steel, bronze, or chromed bronze top works — with the same commercial-duty drivetrain beneath each.
Can Muir design a custom anchoring system for a new build?
Yes. Muir engineers complete anchoring packages via CAD/CAM — windlasses, capstans, chain stoppers, devil claws and deck hardware — working directly with naval architects, shipyards and owner-builders. Start a project enquiry to begin.
