Dave Oates – Craftsman (Welding and Fabricating)

With a collective 150+ years of experience in crafting Australian Anchoring and Winching Systems, we’re super proud of our highly experienced production team and the sense of community they bring to the Muir workshop.

Our longest serving team member, Dave, with almost 40 years under his belt, has stuck with Muir through thick and thin. Starting in the logistics department (Pic 1 with the stylish hat!), he helped ship some of the first Muir production range of windlasses, and then moved through the workshop in various roles as a key member of the polishing, painting, casting and assembly teams. It goes without saying at Muir, but Dave’s work ethic is second to none.

More recently, Dave embarked on a welding and fabrication apprenticeship with TasTAFE with the end goal of helping us fabricate some of the world’s best Anchoring Systems. Fair to say that with 6 months to go in his apprenticeship, he’s already ticked that box and is proving, yet again, to be one of our most valuable craftsmen as 2IC of the fabrication workshop.

Looking forward, and now having successfully passed some of the most difficult Marine Class Society welding qualifications in the business, Dave has and will craft our largest and most intricate winches, chain stoppers, rollers and chain tensioning systems which are exported worldwide for the best shipyards in the business. Some of his handy work is attached.

It might be a cliché, but great companies are only built off the back great people, and Dave is one of the best we have.
